Nobody made you smile like Dale Winton. It wasn’t that he was particularly funny – although his presenting style was certainly marked by a mischievous twinkle.
It was more the sheer warmth of his personality that made you, for a brief moment, forget your troubles and feel that everything was right with the world.
That he has died too soon, at the age of 62, makes you suddenly take stock of a personality that was, on the surface, larger than life, but also suggested a certain introspection. Of course, he was intensely private.
